Bulgarian service stations to get kiosks with lottery terminals

PADERBORN, Germany -- Starting January 2004, Wincor Nixdorf will add a lottery scanner to its Certo kiosk system being deployed at 300 Petrol AG service stations in Bulgaria.

The newly developed lottery scanner, Xiscan, will be built into the Certo kiosk, according to a news release. The release said Petrol is the world's first service station company to enter the lottery terminal business and offer its customers this kind of add-on service.

In addition to the 300 Certo kiosk systems, Sofia, Bulgaria-based Petrol AG ordered 200 BEETLE/M POS systems complete with fiscal printers and dual screens. The POS software and the applications for the kiosk systems are supplied by Varna, Bulgaria-based SIS Technology Ltd. SIS is a software subsidiary of SISTEC AG, Sofia. The systems will be installed in the period between August and December 2003.

"By adding lottery functionality, we are extending our offering and enhancing the attractiveness of our service stations", said Svetoslav Jordanov, chief executive officer at Petrol AG.

"We are looking to use this to win further market share in our core business."

Melanie Lüttig, sales manager at Wincor Nixdorf, said the combination of kiosk and lottery terminals offer many companies in the petroleum sector excellent opportunities in terms of increasing sales and improving customer loyalty.
