Department store Boscov's is getting ready to push out self-checkout and said the technology is not replacing store employees.
It's also getting Wi-Fi in place given consumer feedback, according to a report at The Sun.
The self-checkouts will be placed in 14 locations.
"We're never going to eliminate full-service and we're not eliminating any jobs by having self-service," Boscov's CEO John Boscov told the news outlet.
The news comes at a time when self checkout tech is being both embraced and eliminated by retailers.
This past June grocer Safeway pulled self-checkout kiosks from several Bay Area locations in California. In the same month Qu!ck, an autonomous supermarket concept, opened in Argentina offering a cashierless shopping experience. Customers scan groceries using a app and pay directly within the app, eliminating checkout lines.
