North American boating and accessories retailer West Marine, with more than 300 stores in 38 states, has deployed digital signage West Advisor kiosks in stores to provide product details and video-based buyer's guides, according to an announcement from DT Research. Customers can use West Advisor kiosks located throughout the stores to access more than 75,000 products and an interactive store map.

West Marine chose the SA3000 digital signage appliance from DT Research combined with 24-inch touchscreen displays as a way to deliver dynamic and interactive product and educational information that was efficient to update, the company said.

The media players are also connected to 32- and 55-inch displays installed throughout the stores, displaying seasonal advertising, promotional and lifestyle videos at key traffic areas.

The SA3000 Signage Appliance features the Intel Core 2 Duo processor in a compact and robust package, based on 45nm transistor technology, with one HDMI connector for high-quality video and optimal display experience. The SA3000 provides gains in video processing speed but reduces  power consumption, according to DT Research.

Included with all signage appliances from DT Research, WebDT Content Manager software enabled West Marine to create the layout of content on the screens and manage content scheduling and distribution. The included device-management features allowed administrators at West Marine to log into players remotely and apply software upgrades without going on site. "The world's largest boating supplier retailer now has a dynamic system to educate customers to stores on their vast product offering," DT Research said in the announcement.
