BMW's Virtual Sales Center kiosk, launched earlier this year in a collaborative effort that included the automotive manufacturer and kiosk companies Frank Mayer & Associates Inc. and Netkey Inc., took top honors in this year's 2002 Kiosk MagazineAwards.
The kiosks, profiled in April by KIOSKmarketplace (See story: Kiosks in the Fast Lane), were placed in all 348 BMW dealerships throughout the United States. Each kiosk features information from BMW's Web site, an area where shoppers can custom design their own BMWs, and access a series of short films commissioned by the manufacturer.
The Virtual Sales Center was named Kiosk of the Year for 2002 by the magazine. Additional awards also came to BMW's partners; Frank Mayer won the Enclosure Design Excellence award for the BMW project, while Netkey's version 6.0 of its Creator and Manager software platforms earned the Software Design Excellence award.
The magazine presented awards in eight other categories:
Best Retail Kiosk Application:Cloonan + Associates for the KitchenAid Learning Center, which provides shoppers with information on KitchenAid's household appliances and accessories.
Best Financial Kiosk Application:NCR Corp. for its NCR Xpress Payment Kiosk, a tool used by consumers to pay monthly bills without dealing with customer-service staff.
Turnkey Excellence:MontegoNet, which created a traffic information and services kiosk for the Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission to better serve residents who commute to work in Boston.
