Blue Light Special '- Kmart does kiosk rollout

April 11, 2002

SAN FRANCISCO - Kmart has completed one of the most ambitious and thorough kiosk rollouts in history. The company has installed more than 3,500 online shopping kiosks in 1,100 stores, with plans to continue installing the kiosks until all 2,100 of its national stores have the equipment.

Kmart expects to complete the deployments by 2002.

The kiosks connect directly to Kmart's shopping site, BlueLight.com. Customers can order items at the kiosk and have them shipped directly to their homes using a credit card. Customers can also return items purchased through the kiosks at any Kmart store. Most stores have three kiosks, located at the service desk, electronics and sporting goods. The company's sales associates will encourage customers to order out-of-stock or hard to carry items through the kiosks.

BlueLight.com is an independent company formed by Kmart Corp. (NYSE: KM) and other investors in 1999. BlueLight operates the shopping site, which features hundreds of thousands of products available from the nation's second-largest retailer.
