Belk Inc. launches online gift registry, kiosks

The Belk Gift Registry includes an assortment of bridal and gift merchandise that can be registered and purchased online through belk.com or in local Belk stores, and shipped directly to the customer. The gift selections currently include fine china, crystal, flatware, and kitchen and home merchandise.

A total of 156 Belk stores have the new Belk Great Gifts kiosks, which contain the gift registry computer and provide online access to belk.com. Based in Charlotte, N.C., Belk operates 207 department stores in 13 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.

With the kiosk, customers can use a portable scanning device to enter information on their gift registry selections directly into the system. Gift registry accounts can be changed at the kiosk or over the Internet with a home computer.

"The registry is integrated with the electronic gift registry system used by Belk stores, so all information in the registry is automatically updated regardless of whether gift registry selections and purchases are made in a Belk store or through belk.com," said Karen Hughett, Belk's corporate bridal director.

Purchases can be made online with Belk charge cards and several major credit cards.
