PADERBORN, Germany -- Wincor Nixdorf has equipped the SuperGB store in Belgrade, Belgium, with 17,000 electronic shelf labels (ESLs) from its French partner, SES.
The pilot installation at SuperGB, a retail format operated by Carrefour Belgium, is using the low-frequency radio technology system with LCD displays to communicate via a wireless network, according to a news release.
The ESLs will "talk" with the in-store materials management and POS systems via a back-office computer. The goal is to ensure pricing integrity between the shelf and the checkout, the release said.
Wincor Nixdorf will equip another Carrefour store, a hypermarket in Mons, Belgium, with 52,000 ESLs by September.
"Introducing ESL means price deviations are a thing of the past," said Michel S'Jongers, chief information officer at Carrefour Belgium. "It means we can adapt prices in a competitive environment at the touch of a button."
Depending on store size and the number of price changes, the return on investment period is between 12 and 36 months, the release said.
