The "WellPoint" from BeWell Innovations in Belgium is a self-testing health kiosk that lets people measure their own vitals such as blood pressure and weight without the need for a nurse or doctor, according to The Daily Mail. The machine measures blood pressure, weight, blood oxygen saturation and heart rate.
With the measurements taking 3:07 minutes on average, transferring the task to a self-service kiosk could free up time for health care providers to provide more critical care.
The patient sits at a seat on the kiosk and follows the steps on the touchscreen.
Blood pressure is measured by sliding the arm into a blood pressure cuff on the machine, and weight is measured by standing on a foot plate that acts as a scale.
Then, an oximeter, which clips over the finger measures blood oxygen levels and heart rate within a few seconds.
After results are recorded in a patient medical records database, the doctor can see the results on their screen instantly. The results can be printed on a ticket.
The unit could be adapted to integrate other medical devices to conduct a height measurement, certain types of blood analyses, a urine analysis, a glucose analysis and other disease risk assessments.
The kiosk could also play videos and the touchscreen can administer customizable questionnaires to update patient records.
