Barnes & Noble expands, includes kiosks

February 27, 2002

NEW YORK - Barnes & Noble Inc. (NYSE: BKS), which operates nearly 1,000 Barnes & Noble and B. Dalton bookstores, will make access to its vast library of music titles as simple as touching a computer screen when it opens new superstores in Wyomissing, Pa., and Riverside, Calif., on Oct. 17.

Each store will include a kiosk in its music section. The touchscreen kiosks will offer access to Barnes & Noble's Red Dot electronic music catalog. The catalogs contain information on more than 25,000 CD, video, and DVD titles available in the store. Customer can pinpoint product locations within the store using the kiosks.

The two stores will also feature service counters with Internet access, allowing customers to order books and have them delivered to their home or office.

Barnes & Noble in July announced plans to include a Red Dot kiosk in its superstore in Tracy, Calif., which is expected to open in May of 2002.
