Acuity Market Intelligence has found that automated passport control kiosks are experiencing the fastest growth in the automated border control market, according to an Acuity press release. According to the report, APC kiosks have experienced a compound annual growth rate of 70 percent in North America.
"While the U.S. and Canadian markets are approaching saturation levels, the rest of the world remains a largely untapped opportunity," Maxine Most, principal at Acuity Market Intelligence, said in the release. "The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's May 29, 2015, announcement that they have entered negotiations to extend pre-clearance to 10 airports in nine countries in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean is a huge boon for the APC kiosk market."
Two vendors, Vancouver Airport Authority and SITA, have driven a large portion of this growth. Vancouver Airport Authority currently holds a 66 percent market share, and SITA is second at a 20 percent market share.
There are currently 1,000 APC kiosks in use at 37 airports across North America.
