Australian cinema chain acquires rival's DVD rental business

Evolve Entertainment, a cinema chain in Australia, has acquired rival Hoyts DVD rental machine business for an undisclosed sum, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. As a result, many of the green kiosks will be re-branded or removed in the coming weeks. There are an estimated 600 Hoyts kiosks nationally.

Hoyts purchased former market leader Oovie in 2009 and re-branded the machines "Hoyts Kiosk." Its kiosks have been the main competitor to Evolve's Video Ezy Express for many years.

The acquisition does not affect the Hoyts cinema business.
