AT&T, Nokia test photo kiosks in Austin

July 1, 2004

AUSTIN, Texas -- AT&T has included two of its Austin stores in a pilot program to determine the viability of self-serve photo kiosks for those who use their wireless phones to take pictures, according to a story in the Austin Business Journal.

The kiosks give customers the ability to point their camera phones and transfer the photos directly to the kiosks. Using a credit card for payment, consumers can print out high-quality 4-by-6-inch pictures for 49 cents each or burn the photos to a compact disc for $3.99.

"Camera phones will soon be the rule, rather than the exception," says Nigel Rundstrom, vice president of multimedia sales and channel development for Nokia. "In fact, more camera phones were already sold last year than traditional digital cameras."

AT&T, in conjunction with Nokia, has put a total of 10 kiosks in Texas and Louisiana stores.
