Asda, Europe's version of Walmart, recently introduced self-service kiosks that allow shoppers to browse and order a wider range of its non-food products. The trial is taking place in 20 stores, according to a post on Retail Week.
Asda is also experimenting with a locker program that allows shoppers to use a unique code to pick up their online orders in the 20 test stores. The retailer earmarked £700 million ($917 million) in digital developments and new stores this year, the article reported.
The chain's retail director Mark Ibbotson said the kiosks are an addition to the grocer's dedicated JML kiosks, which allow shoppers to browse the shopping channel's range. Additionally, free Wi-Fi throughout the stores will enable shoppers to browse the extended product ranged via mobile devices, he said.
