The state of Arkansas has completed the installation of 60 kiosks within 41 parole offices across the state as part of its initiative to keep better track of its parolees.
According to an article on thv11.com, the kiosks enable low-risk offenders to check-in for probation, pay fines and receive messages. The kiosks also help offenders find resources such as clothing, housing and employment.
Produced by Slabb Inc., each kiosk cost around $3,500 — an amount that Department of Community Correction Deputy Director of Communications Dina Tyler said was well worth it for the added benefits to state workers and parolees.
"It's something new, it's different and it's going to take just a little bit for them to get used to them, but it's very exciting," Tyler said. "Anytime we can take a step forward that has been propelled by an advance in technology, that's a good thing, especially when the advance is going to free up some officers from having to do these things so they can concentrate on the parolees and probationers who need more concentration."
