Telehealth service provider American Well has announced it is partnering with Community Health System to bring its platform to bring virtual doctor services to CHS patients. It will allow VirtualHealth Now to operate on American Wells platform to allow patients to access primary urgent care services after hours or on weekends, according to a press release.

American Well mainly utilizes its telehealth app, Amwell which is designed to operate over smartphones, kiosks, tablets and other platforms. With this partnership, it will be able to reach patients in 198 hospitals across 29 states.

"We have always believed that supporting and nurturing the trust that exists between patients and their physicians is vital to quality care," said Danielle Russella, president, customer solutions, American Well. "Working alongside Community Health Systems we have a wonderful opportunity not only to deliver an innovative service, but extend care further into the community."

"For more than 30 years, our organization has been keeping health care close to home for our patients," said Lynn Simon, M.D., president of clinical services and chief quality officer for CHSPSC LLC. "Health care consumers increasingly are seeking care that is easier to access and more convenient. In a highly connected and mobile world, it makes sense for us to leverage technology to deliver non-emergent care directly to patients in a manner they prefer."
