American Diabetes Association teams with Pursuant Health on national health kiosk network

October 20, 2016

Millions of Americans will be able to check for type 2 diabetes risk at retail pharmacy kiosks, thanks to a partnership between the American Diabetes Association and Pursuant Health, which has more than 3,600 kiosks nationwide.

Pursuant Health's kiosk will include the test for three years, beginning in November 2016 in honor of American Diabetes Month.

The risk test asks questions about weight, age, family history and other potential risk factors for diabetes. The user's results are reported as a numerical score indicating low- or high-risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Those identified as high-risk are encouraged to speak with their doctor to learn more about ways to reduce risk or delay the onset of diabetes.

The latest diabetes statistics indicate that more than 8 million American adults have diabetes and don't know it. Another 86 million American adults — more than 1 in 3 — have prediabetes, which means that their blood glucose (sugar) is higher than normal, yet not high enough to meet the criteria for diabetes. These statistics demonstrate a critical need for Americans to be informed about their health status and risks for type 2 diabetes.

The test is available on the association's website and in a printed version for health care providers and the public.

Pursuant has kiosks located in retail pharmacies within 10 miles of 79 percent of the U.S. population.

"Adding the American Diabetes Association's Diabetes Risk Test to the kiosk's collection of clinically valid health resources is an exciting milestone for Pursuant Health as the company continues to strive for improved public health outcomes," said Ryan Sloan, chief marketing officer of Pursuant Health. "Through this collaboration, the American Diabetes Association and Pursuant Health hope to make a profound and meaningful impact that may ultimately help the millions of at-risk individuals across the country."
