The first Amazon Go store in New York City opened for business this week and is taking cash as well as offering a cashierless checkout customer experience.
The store is the 12th Amazon Go location the mega omnichannel retailer is operating around the U.S. Initially designed as a cashierless experience, a cash payment option is going to be available as the result of negative feedback and claims that cashless retail is discriminatory to the unbanked and those without a smartphone.
The NYC store, in the Brookfield Place mall, is providing staffers to help handle cash transactions, according to a Gothamist report.
Amazon reportedly is aiming to have 3,000 Go stores operating within two years, according to a Yahoo report.
