July 28, 2003

DALLAS -- Convenience store chain 7-Eleven has added lottery ticket sales to services available at its Vcom electronic commerce kiosks in 1,000 stores in 14 states and the District of Columbia, according to a news report in the Orlando Business Journal.

The Virtual Commerce kiosks are available in at least 49 metro Orlando, Fla., locations and offer 24-hour ATM, financial and other services. 7-Eleven sees the online lottery sales as enhancing customer service and increasing the company's share of the U.S. lottery business, worth $36 billion annually.

"For our lottery-playing customers, buying lottery tickets through Vcom is a new way to play and pay and can shorten check-out lines," said Brady Giddens, 7-Eleven director for Vcom products and services, in a news release.

7-Eleven is partnering with lottery-transaction processor GTech to provide the online lottery sales. GTech contracts with 25 U.S. lotteries.
