Outdoor kiosks are built with weathering outdoor elements in mind. This means that along with regulating internal temperatures and reducing sun glare on the touchscreen, they also keep internal electronics dry in inclement weather. On outdoor kiosks, metal finishing is the best way to prevent water (and even dust) from getting inside the machine. Metal seams are fully welded and then ground down to a smooth finish for a nicer look when painted.
Anywhere components show through the kiosk, they are mounted with a full gasket surrounding that prevents water from getting in. Gaskets are sealing materials, often made of rubber, foam, or silicone, that are clipped or adhered to the metal in a kiosk and form a reliable barrier against the entry of liquids and particles.
Gaskets create a watertight seal and are placed around vulnerable spots, including the kiosk’s door. Compression locks pull the door tight against the seal when closed and locked, blocking water from entering.
In addition, touchscreens and other hardware used in outdoor kiosks are designed to be used in outside environments and are rated to withstand exposure to the elements.
