There is no denying that self-service kiosks offer great conveniences in today's busy world. Tasks like checking in at the airport, paying for food at the grocery store or renting a movie have never been easier. Because your kiosk is an extension of your company, it is important that each and every transaction with your customer is a positive one.
An unfortunate drawback to many kiosk machines, however, is that they are a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. With the frequency that kiosk machines are used, it is no wonder that several strains of bacteria can be found on the equipment if it is not cleaned regularly. In order to avoid risks of this bacteria being transmitted from one person to another, products like key cleaning swabs and screen wipes should be part of a regular maintenance plan.
A recent studydone by Suzanne Blevins of Aerobiology Laboratories documented the testing of 11 touchscreen surfaces. Included in the study was a CVS touchscreen checkout device, an Amtrak check-in terminal at Union Station, Giant grocery store's checkout touch screen, a redbox kiosk, Regan Airport Delta terminal, and several ATMs at a Bank of America. The study showed Giant's checkout touchscreen and the Amtrack check-in had the highest levels of bacteria.
Studies show that clean, well kept kiosks are more likely to be used by customers. Regular cleanings improve the overall appearance of a kiosk and help maintain a positive business image. Remember, you only have one chance to make a first impression! A clean kiosk not only keeps potentially harmful bacteria at bay, it shows your customers that you take pride in the overall image of your company.
