NRF 2012 = 0ptimistic, iAnything, tablets and mobility

January 31, 2012 by Stephen Enfield — CEO, POS Supply

Optimistic, iAnything, Tablets and Mobility are the buzz words I would use to describe this year's NRF Annual Convention & EXPO in New York City. This was the largest NRF show ever with 25,500 attendees from more than 78 countries around the world.

It appears that both retailers and vendors alike are optimistic about 2012. Over the last few years, retailers came to the show to investigate new technology but not necessarily to make any major purchases. This year appeared to bring approved budgets and retailers looking to buy.

Although Apple didn't have a booth at the NRF show, there were no shortage of Apple products, both in vendor booths and in the attendees' hands in the aisles. IPad was definitely the buzz of the show, and there was much debate about the iPad verses the new Android- and Windows-based tablets.

There was an emphasis on mobility solutions (hardware and software) for POS, payment processing, supply chain, workforce management and customer self-service this year. Speaking of payment processing, the lines at Google Wallet, PayPal and Square had steady traffic at their booth throughout the entire show.

In summary, I think this year's NRF Show was a huge success. Vendors and retailers  are looking forward to a prosperous 2012!
