London Kiosk Expo to make debut

Kiosk Europe Magazine hosts self-service event in UK.

October 11, 2011

London will be the meeting place next week for some of England's top self-service companies to exchange ideas about the industry. Kiosk London Expo 2011 runs Oct. 19-20 at the Barbican Centre in the heart of London City.

HF media & events has organized the free event that it calls the "UK's most highly-focused dedicated international trade showcase exclusively concerned with self-service terminals, technologies and solutions." This is the first Expo in London, but the organizers are also the hosts of the Kiosk Europe Expo held in Germany, the world's largest self-service event each year.

"This is the first year that we have organized the event," said Ian Titchener, director of HF Media & events. "We did so because our clients had asked us to. The fact that we have Kiosk Europe Magazine and Kiosk Europe Expo in Berlin meant that we were in a unique position to deliver a great show and conference for the UK marketplace."

Titchener stressed the importance of the event because it is the only one of its kind in the UK.

"Since the UK was one of the pioneers of self service in 1968 it has been at the forefront of the development of self service technology and solutions. We have an event that will allow deployers and operators to experience the very latest technology and cutting edge solutions for themselves," he said. "We also have a great conference program with some highly respected speakers. Attendees can not only leave the event with potential new suppliers and partners but also feeling that they have genuinely learned something."

Topic sessions include:

  • Mobile interactivity
  • Hospital solutions
  • How to choose the correct kiosk printer
  • Energy-saving ideas
  • Security solutions
  • And case studies.

Widely known kiosk companies, such as Protouch, Olea Kiosks and KioWare, will demo kiosk products at the expo.

KioWare will show off its new Android kiosk mode software, which secures the Android OS and browser for mobile devices. This product will be in beta form.

"By design the London Kiosk Expo is a small event, so I hope deployers will see it as an opportunity to spend quality time with the exhibitors, rather than the more typical hurried rush through the exhibit hall," said KioWare President Jim Kruper. "Certainly, I am looking forward to cultivating prospective KioWare users as well as meeting old clients for the first time, finally putting a face a to name. One of the greatest things about these events is the relationships, friendships really, that you form with clients as well as partners."

Kruper, who will speak on a panel about security issues, saidsecurity is a constantly moving target, and many new deployers are overwhelmed with the subject.

"My session will be a broad overview of kiosk security. My goal is for attendees to walk away with a better understanding of the many facets of security," he said.

Other attendees include: Verifone, Pitney Bowes, Custom, and DS Europe.
