Lørenskog, Norway-based DSG Systems is installing 31 self-service bag-drop kiosks at Copenhagen Airport.
"The cornerstone of our strategy is to reduce the total cost of operations for airlines," Marie-Louise Lotz, head of passenger service at Copenhagen Airport, said in a video interview (below). "Self-service bag-drop is just the beginning and we will follow this with other self-service products."
Lotz said 70 percent of passengers traveling from Copenhagen Airport check themselves in, either online or at a kiosk. "It was natural for us to offer them a self-service bag drop," she said. "We want to maintain smooth travel for our passengers, so they can save time and have longer to enjoy their stay at Copenhagen Airport."
DSG bag drops can be integrated into the design of a new desk or retrofitted, in which case they are attached to a desk, conveyor belt or the floor.
DSG has introduced a new design for its self-service bag drop with a number of functionalities that can be added on a modular basis. Available hardware includes touchscreens with a passenger user interface, RFID antennas, boarding pass scanners, NFC, payment terminals, receipt printers, bag tag printers and passport scanners.
DSG's bag drop provides operators with check-in statistics in real time. A Windows 8 tablet allows managers and floor walkers to monitor operations and see real-time alerts for passenger assistance.
A new version of the DSG bag-drop with RFID was due to be installed at Aalborg airport in Denmark in April 2014.
