Würth, Germany's largest fastener and assembly materials company with 600 B2B stores, wanted to let tradespeople restock supplies around the clock, even when no staff are present (before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.). At EuroCIS 2023, Würth searched for a third-generation self-checkout terminal that was more compact than its predecessor, used a portrait display for its new in-house software, ran on Android instead of Windows, was secure against tampering during unsupervised hours, and matched Würth's corporate design.
Pyramid's existing POLYTOUCH® terminals didn't fully fit, but its product team was developing a new modular SCO platform with flexible screen sizes/orientations and peripheral options. Through several design phases, Pyramid built a custom Android-based terminal for Würth while using the same development work to create a new standard product, the POLYTOUCH® pSyCO (Windows-based) — letting both projects share cost savings and insights.
The result: compact, Würth-branded self-checkout terminals now installed in stores, cutting checkout wait times for busy tradespeople under the motto "get your items, scan, and done." The terminal is manufactured at Pyramid's Ichtershausen site and was showcased at EuroCIS 2025.
