Wyoming has enacted new legislation regulating virtual currency kiosks, with Gov. Mark Gordon signing House Bill 75 into law on March 6, according to the National Law Review. The measure brings cryptocurrency kiosks under the state's existing financial oversight by requiring operators to comply with the Wyoming Money Transmitters Act. The law broadly defines virtual currency kiosks to include any publicly accessible terminals that allow users to exchange digital assets for cash, bank credit or other cryptocurrencies.

Under the law, individuals or companies may not own or operate crypto kiosks without proper licensing or status as a state-chartered financial institution. Violations carry significant penalties, including felony charges, prison sentences of at least three years and fines of at least $10,000. The statute also grants the state banking commissioner authority to establish rules governing kiosk operations and ensures that regulatory data collected from operators remains confidential, with limited exceptions.

The law took effect immediately, requiring existing kiosk operators to come into compliance without delay. Officials said the move reflects a broader national trend toward tighter oversight of cryptocurrency kiosks.
