Working Solutions puts museum visitors to work

August 22, 2002

IRONBRIDGE, England -- One of England's most venerable locales for technological and industrial development, the Ironbridge Gorge, is the site of a new kiosk initiative using human power to guide users through the education process.

Scan It, developed by English kiosk solutions provider Working Solutions Ltd., is currently available at Enginuity, the tenth museum opened by the Ironbridge George Museum Trust.

Enginuity focuses on the development of engine power over the past two decades, with exhibits that include boilers, locomotive engines, and robots. Scan It allows visitors access to museum information by using handsets connected to the kiosks. Users point at objects on the kiosk screen using the handsets, and the screen then explains how the object works.

Working Solutions officials said the museum currently houses eight kiosks serving between 400 and 500 visitors daily. The company did not say how much the project cost and whether it would be expanded in the future.
