WireSpring updates Linux kiosk software

August 13, 2002

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Public information terminals software developer WireSpring Technologies Inc. has released the second generation of its Linux kiosk software suite, citing its flexibility and functionality.

FireCast Version 2.0 is available immediately through the company and its resellers. No price points were announced for the package.

WireSpring officials, citing customer feedback from previous FireCast release, said the software has been designed to integrate more easily into networks and offer additional control over kiosk behavior.

Among FireCast's new features is a firewall friendly remote updating system, more robust support for Web browsers and multimedia players, expanded support for laser and inkjet printers, and enhanced local control panels. Changes can be made remotely without disrupting service throughout the entire kiosk network, according to company officials.

"FireCast allows companies to reap the benefits of a robust Linux architecture without the time or expense of developing their own kiosk operating system and remote management software," William Gerba, WireSpring chief executive officer, said in a news release.
