Windows to discontinue Internet Explorer

Next year, Microsoft will only support the last version of Internet Explorer on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 11.

December 8, 2015

Next year, Microsoft will no longer support older versions of its browser Internet Explorer on most of its operating systems. On Jan. 12, only the current version of Internet available for the supported operating system will receive updates and Internet Explorer 11 will be the last version of the browser, according to the announcement.

Internet Explorer 11 will continue to receive updates and technical support for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. The browser is designed to offer a faster more secure experience, according to the announcement.

Windows recommends that users should update their browsers before Jan. 12, since out of date browsers are more vulnerable to malware and other attacks.
