Wincor Nixdorf system dispenses cash, stamps

October 6, 2004

PADERBORN, Germany -- Wincor Nixdorf has introduced the ProCash 1500 automated teller machine with built-in stamp vending modules, a compact Web-enabled system specially designed for interior use.

According to a news release, the system targets postal-service businesses that wish to move cash withdrawals and stamp vending to a single machine.

To date, traditional self-service scenarios in post office branches have featured firm delineation between postal services and banking services. However, running two, single-function machines is often not economical, especially in branches with low footcounts or in off-premises locations.

The ProCash 1500 can print individual stamps and also issue books of stamps. For single-stamp printing, the cash tray is replaced by a printer module. Stamp books are issued from an additional cash tray, and one of the remaining trays is used for dispensing cash, the release said.

In addition to standard cash- and stamp-issuing functionality and on-screen balance inquiries, the unit can offer functions such as electronic purse top-ups/draw-downs and also printing of receipts and confirmations. The unit can be built with multimedia components plus speaker and headset.

The simple user-interface and optional visual instructions on all deposit and issue modules, as well as Braille features, make the machine easy to use. The ProCash 1500 comes with a color LCD display. The withdrawal module is available as a front- or rear-loader system.

Wincor Nixdorf is also offering J/Vend, a standardized software platform for addressing peripherals in self-service terminals within postal service environments. J/Vend is based on the JavaPOS standard which has defined multi-vendor programming interfaces for different types of equipment.

J/Vend controls a variety of modules used in self-service terminals, such as printers, scanners, scales and payment modules.
