Wincor Nixdorf melds mail, money with new compactPost

April 8, 2004

PADERBORN, Germany -- Wincor Nixdorf hopes to capitalize on the growing trend of postal branches that offer financial services with its newest product, a self-service system that integrates postal and banking services.

According to a news release, the new compactPost terminal offers not only cash withdrawal, money transfer and other banking services, but also allows users to obtain postage information for letters and parcels, buy stamps and telephone cards. Other functions are passbook updating and safe deposit keeping.

The modular design of the PC-support "hybrid system" can be individually tailored to meet specific needs, depending on the outlet, its sales location and country, according to the release.

Several postal systems in Europe, Australia and other parts of the world are beginning to offer more financial services at post office branches, especially in remote areas where banks are reducing their branch presence.

Wincor Nixdorf already does business with postal systems in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Norway and Taiwan, providing counter automation systems and printers, among other products.

The compactPost can be used with sidecar units, which offer a variety of different configurations.
