PADERBORN, Germany -- Wincor Nixdorf is working with retailers to develop self-checkout products that will meet the European market's needs, according to a company news release.
An initial prototype of the company's self-checkout product line, which will be brought to market under the name BEETLE/iSCAN at the beginning of 2004, will be on show at Wincor World 2003, Jan. 28-30.
The self-checkout concept has attained prominence in the United States, with more than 16,000 systems installed in 2001, according to the release.
"Systems currently capable of being used successfully on the European market have to be modular, easy to use and service-friendly -- as well as offering a comprehensive security strategy," said Lothar Prause, manager, Retail Product Development at Wincor Nixdorf.
Wincor Nixdorf plans to differentiate itself from the competition primarily by its heavy emphasis on customization. The BEETLE/iSCAN product line includes "Scan & Bag" (bag-packing) to "Scan & Pass," among other features.
