Wincor Nixdorf acquires specialist in reverse-vending systems

PADERBORN, Germany -- Wincor Nixdorf is taking over the business and roughly 80 employees of Prokent AG, insolvent specialist in reverse vending machines.

With this acquisition, effective immediately, Wincor Nixdorf will add reverse vending systems both for disposable and returnable containers to its portfolio of store solutions for retail companies.

According to a news release, Wincor Nixdorf will draw upon Ilmenau, Germany-based Prokent's know-how in the fields of image recognition and automation of return processes in the development of further self-service solutions at banks, retail companies and postal services.

The company will keep the location in the Ilmenau technology region, according to the release.

"On our visits we sensed a get-up-and-go spirit and met motivated staff," said Eckard Heidloff, chief financial officer at Wincor Nixdorf. "We are placing our trust in the committed team and the outstanding infrastructure in the region."
