Quick-serve restaurant Wendy's will soon deploy self-ordering kiosks and an upgraded mobile app. The app, known as Wendy's 2.0, will combine three separate Wendy's apps for ordering, payments and loyalty, according to a report by Columbus Business First.
"We're going to be using the first half of this year to get really operationally good at the way in which the kiosks work and to ramp up production," Wendy's CIO David Trimm said. "We expect that to be in general availability in the second half of the year."
Trimm argued that customers now expect self-service, as research from Gartner Inc. shows that 75 percent of all respondents want self-service solutions.
With the new app, customers will be able to customize their meals and handle ordering, payments and loyalty. In addition, the app will utilize "beaconing" technology to alert the restaurant when a customer who ordered food comes into the building. Mobile ordering will be deployed slowly based on region, according to the report.
