As of July, new buildings in Kitsap County, Washington will be required to have a certain number of EV charging stations, according to a kitsapsun.com report.
The county commissioners approved an ordinance last month requiring EV charging stations at all new construction projects and redevelopment projects where the project cost is at least 50% of the assessed value of the building. Exceptions are made for units without garages or on-site parking or available public or commercial power.
The law requires 10% of accessible parking spaces to be EV charging stations, and an additional 10% of the spaces EV-ready.
The stations should be at least Level 2 chargers, providing 208 or 240 volts and able to recharge an EV in one to four hours.
Drivers will be required to move their EVs to standard parking spaces once their vehicles are no longer charging.
