An EV charging station called Drive Booster introduced in Essen, Germany draws power from a normal power connection instead of the power grid, according to an msn.com report. The charger, developed by Volkswagen and E.ON, a U.K. based power company, can charge two EVs simultaneously at up to 150 kW, providing sufficient range in 15 minutes to travel 124 miles.
The goal is to make EV charging stations easier for locations to purchase, without requiring extensive infrastructure.
Volkswagen claims the plug-and-play charger can be placed at a site, plugged into a power connection and configured online. No civil engineering work or even digging are required; only a solid foundation and an existing power connection.
The charger recharges the battery between charging sessions and at night.
The battery has a 193.5-kWh capacity, and is based on Volkswagen's MEB hardware.
It also has a 43-inch monitor on each side, which can support ads, and two 10-inch touch panels.
