Virtual visitor info kiosks placed in southern Calif.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Kern County, California has announced the installation of outdoor touch-screen interactive visitor information kiosks at the Flying J Travel Plaza, in Lebec, California.The installation incorporates the collaborative technologies and efforts of four display companies, Jupiterbay, Kortek, NextWindow and Display Devices.
 
The large-format display, which is the first of the roughly nine kiosks which are anticipated to placed throughout Kern County. In addition to general countywide dining, lodging and attraction visitor information, each kiosk will feature site-specific information as well, including such sites as the Mojave Space Center and the Bakersfield Airport.
 
Kern County Executive Director, Rick Davis, said that he had a virtual tourism kiosk in mind when he first attended KioskCom and saw the Kortek all-in-one 46" interactive display, which would ultimately become the model for the Kern County installation.
