NEW YORK - Wireless transaction services provider U.S. Wireless Data (USWD) (OTCBB: USWEA - news), today announced it is powering wireless POS terminals at Yankee Stadium during the World Series.
Volume Services America, the company that provides food, beverage and merchandise management services for the stadium, is utilizing 22 wireless terminals at kiosks inside and outside the stadium to sell merchandise.
At Yankee Stadium during the regular season, Volume Services used two wireless terminals powered by Synapse, U.S. Wireless Data's technology platform that enables wireless credit card transactions. The success of the kiosks caused the company to install 20 additional terminals to handle the increased sales demand during the World Series.
According to Volume Services, the wireless transactions take 2-5 seconds, compared to 10-20 seconds on a landline terminal. The lower wait time leads to shorter lines at the kiosk.
U.S. Wireless Data's technology allows the kiosks to be placed anywhere, the company said. The additional information that Synapse online reports provide will help vendors to make better management decisions, the company added, such as merchandise mix and location of kiosks.
