University of Kansas adds kiosks to nursing school

August 1, 2006

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The University of Kansas School of Nursing has installed two new Information Stations. The Windows-based units with touchscreen controls feature a 37-inch Dell LCD high-definition display in one location and a smaller, self-contained wall-mounted kiosk in the other.

The kiosks provide directory information about faculty and staff, department locations, daily events and a slide show of the school's history.

"The display is more efficient for the people maintaining it as well as for the people using it. It's flashy and high-tech, too," said Tom DeCock, director of information technology for KU's School of Nursing. "It works great. Everybody loves it. Also, the information is constantly updated."

The electronic displays create a more efficient work environment because employees can update the information electronically.

"The task of creating and changing plastic name plates with room numbers for three building directories was excessively time-consuming for our business office," DeCock said.
