Unilever tests smart-refill kiosk for homecare products in India

Shoppers at Mumbai's Reliance Smart Acme Mall will be able to refill homecare products rather than having to purchase new packets, thanks to Unilever's in-store "Smart Fill" kiosk. Brands include Surf Excel, Vim and Comfort, according to a report in The Hindu.

Consumers can use empty bottles or purchase a Smart Fill bottle from the store. Consumers are being offered discounts for using both their own bottle and the Smart Fill bottle.

The pilot comes a year after Unilever introduced a trial at Asda's sustainability store in Leeds, U.K. in 2020. The brand has since expanded trials of their refillable packaging for beauty and homecare brands Persil, Simple, Radox and Alberto Balsam in the U.K.
