September 9, 2010
A number of retailers in the United Kingdom are making self-service kiosks an integral part of their efforts to improve their speed of service, according to a survey by KamCity, a news service for national account managers in the country's retail/manufacturing industry.
McDonald's is using self-ordering kiosks and directing assistants with handheld devices to take customer orders, and elsewhere there are efforts to develop self-serve post offices and expand the use of kiosks in pharmacies. Meanwhile, 3,000 retail outlets offer some form of contactless payments.
