The East Midlands Railway, a U.K. rail operator, has deployed the country's first "smart" ticket machines to help customers buy the cheapest train tickets, according to a railadvent.co.uk report.
The machines dispense walk-up and advance tickets as a printed barcode in place of the regular orange paper tickets.
The first units were installed at the Uttoxeter and Deby stations with 28 more machines being installed in late August and early September 2021.
The railway plans to install the machines throughout its network over the year.
