U.K. phone company tries Internet kiosks

LONDON - NWP Communications plans to try out 30 Internet kiosks at its existing payphone sites at airports and railway stations across the U.K., according to an August 21 Newsbytes online article. NWP already operates about 8,000 payphones.

NWP already has installed 25 of a planned 30 kiosks airports and railway stations across the U.K. If the units are successful, NWP plans to install as many as 1,000 kiosks.

The kiosks will be equipped with 15-inch color touchscreens, keyboards and trackballs. Customers can pay for Internet time time with cash, credit or debit cards.
