UK library uses Intellident to control kiosks

November 4, 2010

The Stockport Council's public library service in the U.K. has complete control over every self-service kiosk across its community at the click of a button by using Intellident's remote monitoring and diagnostic software solution.

As local authorities across the U.K. continue to deploy RFID to improve customer service and deliver considerable savings, the amount of equipment across sites increases. For this reason, Intellident developed smartAdmin, an online solution that provides complete control over a wide range of RFID equipment.

Intellident provides self-service, security and stock-management solutions to the public, academic and private library sectors. It has deployed its solutions to more than 850 libraries throughout the U.K.

For Stockport Council's deployment, smartAdmin allows staff within the library service to not only view the status of each piece of equipment but to also configure each unit, upgrade software and features and change the user interface as required (e.g., monthly notices, advertisements).

"The smartAdmin allows us to control each unit from a central location and will deliver considerable time savings," said Charles Goldman, Stockport Library Service's ICT officer. As a web-based solution, it allows administrators to “login from almost anywhere, view status information and change settings," Goldman said.

Intellident says smartAdmin provides notification to the library service of any potential problems, as well as providing a complete transaction summary and detailed breakdown illustrating the range of transactions performed on each machine.

SmartAdmin is live with more than 40 Intellident customers, monitoring in excess of 250 pieces of equipment in real-time. It is expected that this number will rise to more than 400 units over the next four weeks.
