Modern communications kiosks equipped with life-saving medical technology could be installed across South Tyneside, a metropolitan borough in the county of Tyne and Wear in North East England, following a series of planning applications.

As first reported by the Newcastle Chronicle, NWP Street Ltd has submitted four separate proposals to South Tyneside Council's planning division. The applications seek permission to establish a network of multi-functional kiosks designed to serve the public in high-traffic areas.

While the primary function of the structures is communication, a key feature of the proposal is the inclusion of integrated defibrillators. These automated external defibrillators would provide bystanders with immediate access to emergency equipment in the event of a cardiac arrest.

The proposed locations for the kiosks include several prominent sites within the borough, intended to modernize the local streetscape while prioritizing public health.

Local officials are reviewing the applications to determine the impact on the town's infrastructure and heritage. If approved, the kiosks would represent a significant shift from traditional telephone boxes to dual-purpose digital hubs.
