Uber to deploy breathalyzer kiosk in Pittsburgh

Uber plans to deploy a breathalyzer kiosk in Pittsburgh, which will offer free rides to tipsy travelers.

February 26, 2016

Online ride sharing company Uber Technologies Inc. is looking to limit drunk driving in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a breathalyzer kiosk. The kiosk will be deployed in the South Side on Carson Street, according to a report by CBS Pittsburgh.

In order to use the kiosk, users simply blow into an instrument on the kiosk, and then it tells the user if they are above or below the legal limit. If the user is above the limit, the kiosk will automatically give the user a free ride.

Uber deployed another breathalyzer kiosk last year in Toronto, Canada. This is part of an effort to raise awareness on drunk driving and reduce alcohol related deaths, according to the report.
