UAE technology institute puts SMART overlays on student kiosks

August 29, 2004

CALGARY, Alberta--Abu Dhabi Men's College, one of the premier technology institutes in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has installed two interactive overlays from SMART Technologies Inc., mounted on plasma screens, to function as information kiosks for students. SMART's interactive overlays were installed by Visionaire FZE, SMART's distributor in the UAE. Using these kiosks, students can access information such as registration forms, assignments, grade reports, attendance records, class timetables and examination schedules.

Prior to the installation of interactive kiosks, students lined up at the Students Services Center, where officials accessed and printed the information each student required. Now, students walk up to the kiosk and simply touch the screen to bring up an on-screen keypad. Pressing the buttons on the keypad, they input their student identification numbers to access information relevant to them. Once they find the information they need, they print it or log out.

"SMART's touch technology puts users in control of the information they seek, which is advantageous for busy students," said Nancy Knowlton, SMART's president and co-CEO. "With these information kiosks, students can now find and retrieve administrative information quickly, which lets them carry on with their main objective of learning."

Dr. Tayeb Kamali, director of Abu Dhabi Men's College, said "SMART products have helped us put into practice our philosophy of 'anytime, anywhere' access for students to all the information relevant to them."
