Two new ventures for Wincor Nixdorf

February 21, 2004

PADERBORN, Germany - Technology manufacturer Wincor Nixdorf GmbH & Co., seeking to increase its kiosk presence throughout Europe, will soon be making an impact on Italian postal customers and Swedish bank patrons. The company recently launched deployments in each country.

In Sweden, Wincor Nixdorf and Swedish financial institution Nordea has teamed to create the Nordea In-Store Bank concept. Nordea consumers will be able to access their financial information and make transactions at the kiosks, which are being deployed at gas stations, shopping malls, and retail outlets.

Wincor Nixdorf supplied 75 of its Orbiter kiosks to Nordea for the project. The kiosks are designed for indoor and outdoor deployments, according to the company.

Svein Hallangen, Wincor Nixdorf national manager in Sweden, said the company and Nordea are optimistic the kiosks will appeal to customers who are willing to do their banking from familiar locations and over the Internet.

"This is really important for banks to deploy themselves at new places and maintain a high level of service," Hallangen said. "To our knowledge, the people at the branches see this as a very useful tool."

Wincor Nixdorf and Italian designer Michele de Lucchi teamed to create a custom kiosk for Poste Italiane. The Italian postal service has awarded Wincor Nixdorf a contract to install 700 kiosks; 50 have been installed and another 300 are lined up for deployment in the next six months.

The terminals will offer customers additional self-service postal opportunities and Internet access.
