Travelex paid $2.3 million ransom in bitcoin to hackers

Travelex, which operates foreign-exchange kiosks at tourist sites and in airports worldwide, paid hackers $2.3 million in bitcoin after being shut down by a computer virus early this year, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. The company's payment and amount of the ransom has not previously been reported.

The company paid the ransom in the form of 285 bitcoin, according to an unnamed source with knowledge of the transaction.
