VANCOUVER, B.C. -
Global Election Systems Inc. (TSE:GSM.) today announced the AccuVote-TS, a touchscreen voting system, will be demonstrated in Mahoning County during tomorrow's general election.Global Election Systems of McKinney, Texas, the manufacturer of the AccuVote-TS system, and a certified supplier of voting systems for the state of Ohio, is providing the touchscreen ballot stations for Mahoning County's election.
The AccuVote-TS is equipped with a 15-inch screen that is voter-activated with the use of a smart card. Each ballot station is a stand-alone unit capable of presenting as many as 50 candidates on a single screen. The system can export results electronically directly from each precinct to a central host computer for countywide accumulation, reducing the time required to tabulate votes and disseminate results to the media and the public.
The AccuVote system also accommodates visually impaired voters by using a voice-over recording program that reads the ballot in up to seven languages. The voter interacts with the system by using a headset and a standard 12-key pad to record votes.
Global Election Systems was one of six companies that presented bids to the Mahoning County Board of Elections on Aug. 24. It is one of three companies certified by the State of Ohio Board of Voting Machine Examiners.
