AUSTIN, Texas -- Touch International Inc. announced Digital Ink, which the vendor calls the worlds' thinnest and only form-fitting, unbreakable, wear-resistant touchscreen capable of stylus, finger and gloved-hand input with palm rejection.
Digital Ink is designed for retail signature capture, Web phones, personal digital assistants, gaming devices, global positioning systems and other handheld applications in which thinness, power efficiency and low weight are important, a news release said. Larger screen sizes in the future will be appropriate for kiosks.
Digital Ink brings the functionality of a touchscreen to any material, including a window storefront, tabletop or bulletproof glass. With its palm-rejection capabilities, Digital Ink eliminates accidental input from the pressure of the user's knuckles or palm, ensuring accurate input registration, the release said.
Digital Ink supports USB and PS/2 communication protocols. Supported operating systems include various flavors of Microsoft Windows, Linux and Macintosh.
Other advantages of Digital Ink, according to the vendor, include antibacterial and anti-static surface, choice of sensor material (glass or plastic), fast pen-tracking speed and range of available sensor thickness.
Digital Ink is currently available in sizes up to 5.7-inch diagonal. Larger sizes will become available in the fourth quarter of 2003. The release did not offer pricing.
